Nurse Ambassador Program

Top level News

This pilot program was to select approximately 20 nurses who are involved in cardiovascular health in South Australia and train them to become Heart Foundation Nurse Ambassadors. In this capacity these nurses would be able to offer additional support, assistance and expertise to patients, carers and health workers and introduce the important role of the Heart Foundation throughout the community by supporting those with cardiovascular disease.

Congratulations to Narelle Sturm and Jocelyn Grieger who were successfully accepted to the Nurse Ambassador Program. As part of their role Narelle and Jocelyn are required to work with patients to improve their understanding of the risk factors of cardiovascular disease and the modifications they can make to decrease their personal risk. They will also assist patients to understand the Heart Foundation’s role in the recovery of heart related illnesses, raise awareness of the Heart Foundation’s treatment guidelines and implement a program for health care workers in the Mallee Health Service Campuses and for outpatients.

Heart Foundation Nurse Ambassadors have access to a network of experts and mentors in the field of cardiovascular heath. They also have the opportunity to attend a range of free specialized training sessions and receive professional recognition for their involvement in the program. The benefits not only to the nurses themselves, the Health Service but also to the community at large are quite substantial and again we have to admire the dedication of the health professionals, in our region, to the well being of the people of the Mallee district. Well done Narelle and Jocelyn.
