Top level Community Health

On Thursday 27 October, 2005 sixteen mums from Lameroo and Pinnaroo enjoyed lunch and an informative talk on Postnatal Depression was given by Robert Bott, Mental Health Nurse for Mallee Health Service.

Robert spoke on the incidences of Postnatal Depression and the effects it can have on a mother’s relationship with her new baby and other family members.

If women at risk of Postnatal Depression can be identified during their pregnancy and effective psychological and social supports are provided it is possible that Postnatal Depression may be reduced in severity or prevented all together.

Jane Toogood and Child & Youth Health nurse, Chris Rippin also spoke on their experiences with Postnatal Depression and Mums were encouraged to ask questions and talk about their own experiences.

Beyondblue is a national Postnatal Depression program which can provide information on the prevention and management of Postnatal Depression. Beyondblue booklets, available at the session, can also be obtained from Jane Toogood, Community Midwife by phoning Mallee Community Health Services on 8576 4677, 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday.
