Mallee Health Service's Community Van
|
The Mallee Health Service will be holding the official launch of its newly manufactured Community Van,and members of the local Mallee communities are invited to join in the celebrations.
The Community Van, which arrived in April, will be utilized at local events such as the Karoonda Farm Fair, Pinnaroo Show, and for health promotion activities around the region. In particular, the van will be an important part of delivering services to smaller outlying communities in the Mallee region where typical health services are not available.
Specially designed and custom built by Gawler Caravans, the van is one of only a few of its kind across Australia. A unique feature is the ability to lower the complete unit to the ground, made possible by a pneumatic (compressed air suspension) control system. This enables the van to be wheel chair accessible and easier for members of the public to enter and explore the unit. Extensive cupboard and bench space inside will allow staff to carry a variety of resources and equipment for display when traveling.
Examples of possible activities the van will be used for include health promotion displays for events such as Heart Week, school immunizations, community health checks and screenings, health clinics and youth activities. In the future, the van will also be capable to carry laptop computers, and have the ability to screen videos and other educational presentations inside. The list of possible uses for the van is endless, and Mallee Health Service is keen for the local community to communicate ideas as to how and where they would like to see the van used.
The official launch will be on Friday June 162006 in Lameroo and is being held in conjunction with activities organized by Mallee Health Service staff to highlight Heart Week. Official presentations by Adrian Pederick, Member for Hammond, and members of the Mallee Health Service Board of Directors will commence at 11:00am at the CWA Lawns on Railway Terrace North. A light lunch will be served, and members of the public are encouraged to stay to participate in health checks and screenings, take away information on healthy eating and other healthy lifestyle options, plus meet the ‘Veggie Man’ and the ‘Happy Heart’, and have a go at the ‘Fruit & Veg Throw’ competition.
Members of the public wishing to attend should RSVP to Kristal Andrews at Mallee Health Service on 8576 4677 by Tuesday June 13.
