NEW SOUTH AFRICAN NURSE AT PINNAROO HOSPITAL

Top level Hospitals Pinnaroo Hospital

There’s a distinctly South African flavour at the PinnarooHospital these days.

Monday, January 27 2006 saw another South African nurse join the hospital’s 29 member nursing staff. Latest nurse Antonia Aniebo-Matiwane hails from Nigeria and She did her nursing and midwifery training at the ZumaMemorialHospital before moving to South Africa with her husband. There she worked as a nurse for approximately 10 years at DordrechtMemorialHospital and LadyGreyHospital.

In October she, husband Patrick and four-year-old son Joshua moved to Adelaide where Antonia worked with a nursing agency. Antonia is hoping her 12-year-old daughter will also move to Australia when the family is more settled.

She was attracted to Pinnaroo after seeing the word `Memorial’ in the Hospital’s advertisement. It was a reminder of hospital names back home. Three days after her move to Pinnaroo she went to fellow South African Noelene Cant’s wedding. ``It’s all been fun and I’m enjoying it so far,’’ Antonia said. ``Having them (South Africans) around can be nice. Sometimes you discuss things of home. It’s quite nice in the countryside. The quiet life is good.’’

Despite the distance Antonia said nursing was similar the world over. ``It’s not really different. We do most of the things the same. Nursing all over the world is similar,’’ she said. The Lady Grey Hospital she worked at in South Africa also catered for a large farming community.
