The Mallee Health Service Board wishes to advise the Mallee Communities of the recent release of the draft Health Care Bill 2007 and the invitation from government seeking comments from the public on the draft.
In line with the government’s announcement of a major step forward in providing the State with one of the most integrated health systems in Australia this new Bill plans for a new governance framework to support its planning, funding and delivery of health care services.
Integral to the governance changes are a number of key issues which government is suggesting are designed to achieve its objectives. These changes are primarily focused on existing local Health Unit Boards ceasing to exist in their present form and instead being relaced by Health Advisory Councils.
The Health Advisory Councils will have as their central functions advocacy and the provision of advice.
While the Board of Mallee Health Service is at present reviewing the Bill and its associated documents, it plans to further consult initially with other Boards across the Mallee Coorong area, and then with the broader Country SA Boards, prior to forwarding its comments to government.
As this is a significant change in the way health services are to be managed into the future and the manner in which control over health unit assets is administered the Board of Directors of Mallee Health would encourage both individuals and community groups to obtain a copy of the draft Health Care Bill and submit any comments and/or concerns they have, by 10th August 2007, to either
